Movies for Grownups

Several movies we watched that I highly recommend:

Up in the Air. George (Clooney, for those of you who don't venture out much) just keeps getting better and better. This is a quiet simple movie that doesn't pander to the audience or tie up the character's lives in a cute red ribbon. It's real, the characters are complex and messy, and it's simply wonderful.

Bright Star. I had to watch this twice, and got more out of it the second time around, frankly. There's a lot of dialogue and the emotions are quiet and profound. Plus, the costumes are exquisite on the lead actress. I want her gold ball gown.

The Duchess. Wow. The apple certainly doesn't fall far from the tree. This is about Princess Di's great-great-great-great grand relation (I think I have all the 'greats' right here). It's also well acted. And it's a visual feast.

I watched the Oscars and called all the winners except for the shorts, foreign film, and documentary. Should've had money riding in an Oscar pool somewhere......

Up In The Air was outstanding. Clooney is such a gracious and generous actor. I also loved Precious, difficult to watch in some places, but ultimately uplifting. I was very disappointed that Meryl Streep lost to Bullock whose work couldn't compare to Streep's transformation into Julia Child.

Always good to have recommendations. We watched Hurt Locker Thursday. It was very good. I don't know if it was six Oscars good.

Yeah. Clooney is a class act.

Clooney; my heart goes pitty-pat!

Here in England, anything that has anything to do with Princess Di goes down a storm, and if this is the film that I am thinking about, they led very similar lives.

Hi Why,

Thanks for your comment on my blog...

I don't watch much Hollywood fare as I prefer foreign films, and British television, however, I will check these out, and I agree about George Clooney. I hope you are well and enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Thanks for the recommendations, I’ll check them out! You’re right too, Clooney does keep getting better. I think Leo does too, but a lot of people disagree with me on that one.

Guess I'll have to check out those movies. We tend to watch quite a few movies here in the country---in our little love nest...as retired folks. Pretty nice.
I watched the Oscars too....I always love to see the dresses and how everyone is gussied up.
We never get to the theatre though as it is an hours drive from our place to get to a theatre...so we have to wait until they are out on DVD. BUT, when I go to Utah to see my kids....guess what...I GO SEE A MOVIE AT THE THEATRE. and have buttered popcorn

I haven't seen 'The Blindside' yet, and I love Sandra Bullock, but I have to admit I wonder if her performance was that much better - I did see 'Julie & Julia' and Meryl's portrayal of the indomitable Julia Child was amazing. Poor Meryl is about to become the Susan Lucci of the Oscars ...

Ah, Gorgeous George ... easy on the eyes and I love his voice, but I don't think he'd be easy to live with in real life and his gf is too young for him - so typical! I'll have to add 'Up In The Air' to the list of must-see movies ... *sigh* so many movies, so little time.
