First Things First

I hope everyone had an excellent holiday. Considering where we spent last year (the hospital for Excy's ER surgery), this year was perfect, even if it wasn't! I am feeling over-fed, over-indulged, and lucky. One thing, though - candies and cookies had better freeze well. We got so many treats if we ate them all, I'd be a fat diabetic by spring.

Most folks feel let-down after Christmas -- empty house again, tree and decorations down, the magic's over and all that. Truth be told, as great as the holiday is, I feel a slight sense of relief. I like the first of January. It's rife with possibilities. The emptiness and silence gives me space to consider the new year. I've always been a lover of anticipation, anyway. I don't really make resolutions, I just try to make a small positive difference in my world every day and reflect on how I can enhance it. May everyone reading have one of the best years of their lives...

I meant quiet

I, too, enjoy early January. It's nice to have a bit of quiet and calm.

I find that I very rarely reflect on a year. I try to live day by day. Yes, there are some things I would like to get accomplished and I'll put a plan in place to do those things whether or not it's a new year.

I hope you have a great year, too.

I like it too...a time of reflection and some peace and quiet. And the house seems so much larger without all the decorations up! Now if I could just get the decoration boxes out of the hallway! Lol.

Wishing the same for you, my friend.

Happy New Year!

I wanted to let you know I took your advice and got the book. Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women. I finally had the time over the holidays to read a book and it was divine time.

I thoroughly enjoyed this look into LMA's life! I was surprised by so much of it. It was not at all what I expected and found her family excentric, dsyfunctional and wildly fascinating.

Thank you so much for this recommendation.

Enjoy the quiet--it is a wonderful gift as long as you have options.

That's what I do - no big resolutions, just small steady changes...I like to linger in the after-math of Christmas and keep my tree up for the 12 Days of Christmas to at least the Epiphany and sometimes longer...then it goes into the bedroom for the rest of the year...I love Christmas and could have the tree up all year, only then it would not be special when December rolls around.

Happy New Year and all the best to you and your husband. (good luck with the kitty cats!)
