From Worried to Wacked Out

I just couldn't get over two little blips in the news...People magazine ran a story about 'balloon boy's' family, and as glad as I am that Falcon is physically okay, I'm concerned for his well-being more than ever. I've restrained on making comments about child-rearing b/c I have no kids of my own. This, however, is beyond the pale. A father who considers being on Wife Swap and any other reality show he can swing the pinnacle of his career? To convince a six year old to partake in a publicity stunt like this is despicable. Kids sleeping in their clothes so they can 'storm chase' any given moment. Dad's obsession with UFOs; referring to fried eggs as 'space eggs' who screams when the 'mother ship' is cut into while eating....from wacko to space cadet...these people walk among us......it's more scary than any horror movie out there.....

Some man bought a hotel in Taos, New Mexico, a tiny place, noted for being eccentric and artsy, and having the occasional celebrity neighbor (Julia Roberts comes to mind) -- who fired all the employees because they were Mexican and he 'didn't speak Spanish and it made him uncomfortable.' He's the boss, he can do as he likes, but HELLO? He tried to get them to change their names to English-sounding names -- does he have a clue where he is?? Let's hope he doesn't buy a hotel in, say France or Russia......

I haven't seen the People article but I know that the balloon boys's parents should be ashamed of themselves. I'm hoping that the kids get some counseling.

Both stories are totally upsetting! I'd heard well enough about Balloon Boy, but the hotel man!? What a wretched creature!! Who in the world would do anything so awful!? Ugh... some people...

Giving a little blog love from SITS. :)

And people wonder why raising children in this world is so frightening...

No one should be permitted to procreate without years of psychotherapy. But no judgement here!

Both stories completely blow my mind and make me wonder, "What the HELL is wrong with people!"

Taos guy made some really racist remarks in some interviews as well, I won't repeat them because they were so stupid they aren't worth the space in my brain.

Balloon boy's parents need a brain...I think they only have one to share and it's filled with how to make money schemes and UFO sightings.

Nice! I'm concerned about Falcon too!

I agree. Falcon's mommy is 'going down with the ship' and standing by her man. She looks like a doormat and I get the 'verbally abused' look about her. I would hope that she could get some nerve to use this time to say HELP, get me out of this and protect me and the boys, he made me do it. Instead, she may go to jail with him and leave her kids with who?

I know, it's scary isn't it? Every time I think to myself that I might just be a touch eccentric myself I remember people like this and realize that I am totally, 100% sane.

I don't know what is wrong with people. I do know that they're nuts.

We watched that here in England, and during the interview, Falcon let it out on T.V. that he was told to hide in the attic! These people are nuts! How far would they have gone to get some publicity? They had everyone out looking for that boy. They should be made to pay towards the rescue people who were out looking for the child!

With five children, I tend not to judge others parenting because one never totally knows the whole story.

Still, sometimes it just becomes so evident that something is amiss. Yes, I agree, SOMETHING IS AMISS.

Which always makes me wonder....why do you need a license to fish, but all you need is a penis to procreate.

weird in both cases!

What's wrong with our country these days, as exhibited by both references...RAMPANT STUPIDITY!

What's worse, it seems to be more common than not!

Wye, good god what is wrong with these people. brain washin kids is just plainole stoopid and wrong. Wonder how that guy would like to go into Mexico, and not be allowed to stay in a hotel cause he can't speak spanish.
We need a good dose of , do unto others...

This stuff is hard for me to read because it makes me want to smack people. I don't have kids either, but I know the difference between being tempted to accuse people of bad parenting (such when their children are loud or crying in public (or on a plane behind me) and actual bad parenting (such as this balloon boy crap).

I feel so bad for those kids, I can cry. Dad is a nut case and should be sent to parenting school. I'm not too sure about the Mom. I don't know her story, but she looks as if Dad pushes her around, she has that look in her eyes. I feel bad for her also. The whole thing is just a big mess. I was so thankful when it was just a prank, I prayed for that little boy, that he would be fine. The bottom line to me is that is is fine and that is all that matters. Dad needs the help.
